Ready n willing[]

Id be ready to edit any page with errors like i have once so i just thought id let you know. thanks

Cool... I'm just here to help W13, but if you have knowledge of the game and can add stuff, go for it! At this stage, I think it's mostly combing through news items and other game sites for information from interviews and stuff. --Wynthyst 00:30, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

ya id be surely obliged :)The Nightblade 03:25, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Editing help[]

How did you make it so you don't need to skip a line each time you go down one? Whenever I do it just once, it never works, so I gotta do it twice. A good example would be the Song of the Dragonborn page that you edited for me.

I used the <poem> tag. that allows you to do poem format. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 00:23, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Multiuploader[]

I can't seem to get this page to work. When I try to use offsite URLs it just refreshes the page when I hit submit. When I try to get one from my computer it will take me to an error page (not a standard wiki error). --Ducks108 00:47, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

you can't use offsite urls, you can only upload directly from your computer. It will kick out an error for every blank slot. It's meant to upload 5 images at once, so if you only upload 2, it will kick out 3 errors. This is a known problem with the extension itself, and there is nothing that can be done about it other than notify the creators of the extension directly and ask for a revision. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 08:18, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome :)[]

I'd like to propose some changes to the category structure on this wiki. How should i go about discussing that with you? Would you like me to create a project page, or just dump my thoughts here? — Game widow (talk) 19:44, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

We can start here and see if it merits a full project page. :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:04, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
I'll start with a few suggestions and flesh it out over the next day or so:
  • while the categories seem to be mostly hierarchical, the contents don't seem to make use of that. For example, "Imperial Watch Boots" is in 4 categories: Armor, Boots, Items, Apparel. To me it would make far more sense to have that page in Boots and have the Boots category be part of Armor and/or Apparel (depending on how those two categories relate to each other). How do you feel about that approach ?
See response below...
  • should a page like Armor have tables for quick links to the individual items ? That's normally my preference, a general page for a category with a table which links to the individual item pages.
Yes
  • sorting pages with titles that begin with "The" : do you prefer to have them all under "The ..." or sorting by the first real word of the title? Also, there are pages where the word has been omitted from the page title, the wiki should have a standard, either drop "The" all the time, or always include it, but not a mix. And if "The" is included (my preference), then i would also champion sorting by the next word using {{DEFAULTSORT:Title without the leading The}}.
Documentation should follow the in game naming. If something has "The" in the title in the game, it should have it here. I guess I prefer a straight sort rather than eliminating "The". I guess I don't find it to be that much of an inconvenience.
  • i use AWB quite a bit, so don't worry about sweeping changes being time consuming, i can get them done quite easily (if curse allows the use of AWB)
There have been recurring problems on Curse wikis using AWB, if you can get it to work great, but I've learned not to depend on it.
The category tree is still very much a work in progress. A lot of categories were hard coded onto pages while I've been developing the infoboxes that auto categorize. I think if you find pages with too many categories, you should try removing any hard coded categories and see if that doesn't straighten some stuff out. I just haven't had time to go through every page and remove all of them. The infoboxes and categorization of stuff is also still in development as I learn how things work in the game, and the inter relationships of stuff. I'm considering removing the Armor category, and just use Apparel since apparel is how it's all categorized in the game. I just think people are going to commonly search for Armor rather than apparel. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 21:23, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
I agree with going with the game terminology, we can always simply have a redirection for the word armor to the apparel category, that's easily done. As for cleaning stuff up, i'm happy to do that kind of thing .. i find it sort of zen :D — Game widow (talk) 21:41, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

First Time Helper[]

Never actually edited a Wiki page before this, but I'm loving it. This wiki is only in its infant stages so I'm throwing out as much accurate info as I can. I'm editing and playing at the same time, whenever I get the chance. Leave me a message if I can help you in any way, even if it just simple things like a list of desirable wiki edits.

Welcome! Any contribution helps to make the wiki better! And it's I who should be offering you any help you might need, answering questions etc. And you've got it about right, just play and enjoy the game, and if you find something you think would help other players, and it's not already here, add it :D It's always fun to see someone discovering the fun of contributing to a wiki! BTW, you can sign your talk page posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 09:20, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

I will def. have lots of questions. I've already spent way to many houra today messing around learning things. I find it a bit disappointing that we don't have some of the most basic pages on here. I just recently created a page for the 6000+ word book "The Oblivion Crisis" because I thought it was desperately important that the storyline is preserved, not to mention to give a solid link for all of it references and an accurate citation link for the Oblivion link (Which needs a lot of help). The storyline of this series is what has kept me so fascinated with it. Anyhow....I noticed that many of the main pages are locked which is rather disappointing. I wish I could clean up some of these lists and drop menus to accurately depict the pages that are 'actually' in the main link. I've created links for all relative material and my pages are riddled with red words, but I hope to change that soon. Especially for simple things like the word daedra, which is referenced in at least 20 different pages. Maybe I'm taking it a bit serious but I think this wiki could be really good with some work. Super expansion on this wiki.[]

I am a loyal member of the elderscrolls wiki, but this is the only skyrim wiki I can access at school. I am constantly dissapointed by the lack of even basic information, so I want to make a suggestion. Start copying pages from the elderscrolls wiki and paste them onto this site. I won't be doing this of course... if I can get on the elderscrolls wiki i'm am going to stay there, but I would really like to have something to read when I am at school. 173.186.96.194 15:38, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, we can't just "copy pages" from other wikis. Our license is incompatible. Feel free to create as many pages though as you would like that aren't just copy/pasted. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:12, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Template:Item infobox[]

Just wondering why you removed the height restriction to the template, I added it to prevent over stretching of the infobox image for elongated images, thus having the need to pad images out with empty space. Additionally, if the site needs to be updated, it can be done through a single template, instead of making a whole new set of images. GhostAvatar 22:06, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Well, personally, I don't see a need for a height restriction. The width restriction is perfectly adequate to maintain a reasonable size for the images. I also don't see any reason to have weapon images that are 2200px X 2200px. It's riduculous, and just a waste. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:49, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
A waste to you maybe, but not to everyone. After all this is a wiki for everyone and not just a single person. Considering two people have spoken against your view, kinda proves that point that there is a need. If a thumbnail view is good enough for you, that is fine, nothing making you click the image for better detailed image. But for those who desire it, it is there for them.
As for the height restriction, point in question (Blades Sword). The width restriction is not adequate, adding the height restriction has not detrimental effects to the present content and only serves to improve the template, also reduces the need for contributors to waste time padding out images because of a simply lazy coding issue. GhostAvatar 03:19, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Well, once again, if you weren't uploading such ridiculously sized images, this would be a no brainer. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:20, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Also, changing the position of the image just to "prove" your point is dumb beyond belief. Why not display the image angled, the way it appears in game? -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 04:01, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Like in the game heh. You know what I find ridiculous? Your attitude for essentially a dead wiki with only one other contributor. As for the reason I did it, just from reading through what you have written, I can tell you are nothing but stubborn person who fails to see anything beyond your own viewpoint. GhostAvatar 12:56, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
If this is just a "dead wiki with only one other contributor" why do you care? -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 15:13, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Because Ausir made a request and I said I would help out. But now I see that is kinda pointless, with people like you being a dick. If anyone is the dumb one here, it is you driving off contributors (especially as Curse staff -_-). So I will just go make my contributions to another wiki project like Wikia or UESP. Ohh btw, thanks for the complete disrespect of editing my message, have fun being a douche in your little corner of the web. GhostAvatar 18:58, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
I have not made any attempt to change the ridiculously sized images you uploaded. I just don't see any need for images than 99% of users can't even view on their monitors. The only change I made to your message was removing a harmful, and unnecessary link. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 19:42, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Very Nice[]

I like the style of this wiki. The transparent photo, etc. Amazing and beautiful! If I can be of assistance (though I don't play the game. :-( ), I'd be honored! (Ariyen) 72.148.31.114 01:16, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
